BASSINGBOURN Reds earned an important point with a battling performance in this top of the table clash at St Neots.

Chances were at a premium in the first half and with the wind against them Reds had to soak up a fair bit of pressure from the Sky Blues, but good saves from Ben Sams and solid defending from Jamie Caldwell, Joe Failletiaz and Josh Haigh kept the scores level.

As the half wore on Bassingbourn started to look more dangerous and they took the lead after a lightning-fast break and Fin Burchett scored with a great strike from outside the box into the bottom right of the goal.

Reds started the second half brightly and were moving the ball well with Steckley, Burchett, French and Puvvada all pushing forward, but the Blues defence held firm and from their first corner of the second half blues levelled when a cruel deflection took the ball past Sams. Both teams were going for the winner and Josh Haigh almost won the game with a deft back heel flick, but it wasn't to be and the game finished tied at 1-1.

BASSINGBOURN Whites produced a great second half display to seal a 3-1 away win in blustery conditions.

Dark Blues started strongly and took the lead early in the game with a fine header from a corner kick, but despite having much of the play St Neots were unable to add to their tally thanks to some great play at the back from Oli Struebel, Alex Collet-Sinfield and Charlie Catton who made half a dozen excellent saves to keep his team in the match.

With the wind against them in the second half, Whites showed their character and managed to play some lovely football too - at times looking more like Barcelona than Bassingbourn. They levelled the score when Matt Sutton beat the keeper with an audacious volley from just inside the right touchline.

Five minutes later Sutton was fouled in the area and Arthur Baigent scored from the spot to give Whites the lead. But the Coup de Grace was delivered when Baigent coolly tucked home Sutton's cross after another fine move down the right.
