Living in THAILAND.

Wink [;)]

Hello there,( sa-wat-dee krap).

Merv and Cyn ( retired ) here in Pattaya City Thailand, our life after Wisbech, well Walpole Highway really. We left Wisbech in January 2006 after having spent several years visiting our friend who has been living and woking here for over 10yrs,having also lived in Walpole and Walton previously. By the way if anyone who reads this are looking for old friends or relatives or ex-pats in general give us an e.mail, be nice to here from you ,e.mail address in ex-pats map section ,or somewhere, i'm not to clued up on these computer thingies,so if you only get half this story you'll know why. Pattaya City is situated approx 100 kms south of the capital Bangkok, and about 60kms or 1hr drive from the new airport that opened in May this year,we are on the coast on the Gulf of Thailand,8hrs drive north of the best known resort of Phuket, that's a mere 6000mls from Heathrow.(More on Thailand later)

Why did we leave Wisbech to live in "the land of smiles",and (almost) everyone smiles, the sun (nearly) always shines and the cost of living is,"as cheap as chips",or cheaper than yours, why did we leave Wisbech?,don't ask,we now have our 3wks holiday in England each year much more sensible, plus it's easier to learn the language in Thailand than it now is in Wisbech, but we mustn't go there.

In the 80s we ran a pub called "The Clippers Arms" at Walton Highway nearWisbech now de-licenced.Elgoods beer brewed at the Elgoods Brewery in Wisbech,a good pint,i think that's where the term regulars comes from.Later i worked for Nestle' Purina in Wisbech and the wife at Burman House residential home.Terrington St. John. Spare time for me was playing bowls for St.Lawrence bowls club Tilney and writing poetry , a few of which were published by Poetry Now magazine in their Anthologies.I was also fortunate enough to have one selected by The Angles Theatre for their production."One Thousand Years Of Wisbech", with my poem "Through a lens" being read on stage. If anyone out there would like a copy or would like one written for a special occasion just let me know. The wifes hobby was keeping the garden spick and span,i didn't interfere ( wink ),we  also liked to visit places of interest, mostly pubs more on those next issue if i'm allowed back .I could write a book,it will be interesting to note any feedback .

Finally....Pattaya getting a lot more touristy nowadays but still room to relax and enjoy,ex pats meet every Sunday also ex servicemens club,of course bowls, loads of golf ,cheap rent and entertainment ( of every kind ). Lots of charity working going on raising funds for the less fortunate, then of course there's Walking Street and Soi 6 oh yes!!! Soi 6 but thats another e.mail. Will update from time to time if interest shown.Maybe a poem too?.

                                              Happy reading

                                                              Merv        PS and Cyn.
